Hey Tumblr, I'm riding my bike 150 miles to fight Multiple Sclerosis, but I need your help!

I’m doing that crazy thing where I ride 150 miles on my bike over two days. Why would I do such a ridiculous thing which last year included a first day of murderous hills that nearly tore my legs off? I do it because its what I can do to help find a cure and treat folks who have MS. If you don’t know, MS is a disease that can start as something very simple like small muscle spasms and then lead to neurological disorders, blindness, losing the ability to speak, move, eat, drink and generally function. These symptoms will happen in shorts bursts which are completely unpredictable and maybe ultimately result in a shorter life.

Obviously, this is no good, and no one should have to go through this kind of suffering. The good news is, you can do something about it. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is putting together all sorts of massive efforts to get funds and other resourced to help the fight against MS. Donations go to providing medial support to those currently inflicted as well as providing funding to the institutions working hard to find a cure.

How this works

First, you sponsor me. Give whatever you can, no amount is too small. Then, tell your friends, tell your family, help get the word out. While you’re doing that, I’ll be training for the ride, trying to build up some more stamina, getting in as many rides as I can to make those western PA inclines a little less painful. Once June rolls around, I’ll hitch up with my team, Thick Bikes (an awesome bike shop on 15th street in the southside of Pittsburgh) and we’ll ride from the starting point just outside of the city, all the way to Lake Eerie. Around 80 miles on the first day, camping overnight, then 70 the second day. We’re not doing this alone mind you, thousands of other people with hundreds of other teams will be riding with us, with support staff all along the way. I’ll take pictures, ride my heart out and be back in town in time for work on Monday.

Then what? Well once the ride is over and the funds are all in place, your donation goes toward a good cause, we both get to feel good knowing that we’re helping to stop something awful and I might walk with a slight limp for a week.

As they say around here, No one should have to hear the words “You have MS”. Help me make that a reality.
